Just up the road from Maggie Valley is the small community of Lake Junalska, home to the Methodist Conference Center. It's a great place to get out and stretch your legs on the 2 1/4 mile path which circles the lake and is popular with walkers, joggers, dogs, and people who just want to enjoy the picturesque scenery. There are many fine examples of craftsman style homes which ring the man made lake. The conference center offers an affordable place to stay.

 
You can't miss Lake Junaluska, you pass right by it on US 19 approaching Maggie Valley from the east. The lake hosts a population fo ducks, geese and swans which enjoy the bread brought by visitors. It is especially beautiful in the fall when the leaves are showing their color.  
Be sure to stop in, make the drive across the dam, and enjoy the views.
